Black Love Exist

As we close on the month of February the designated month to celebrate all things black, I wanted to put a compilation of the celebrity couples I gave honor to over the 28 days. Media will have black people think black unions are on a decline in our community so I felt it my duty to shine a light on the couples who have shown us Black Love Exist: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow. I could have posted five couples and day and still not put a dent in the many black couples who are making their black love last. Here are just a few. 

This dedication to black love caused me to turn to everyday couples who are holding it down year after year. I will be sharing their Black Love journeys right here on my blog. #2 A DREAM LIFE

He is a Democratic member of the Pennsylvania State Senate. She is an actress, singer, author, and activist. They have been married since 2005.

#3 I WILL MAKE IT BACK TO YOU

He is an actor, comedian, and game show host who is the star of the critically acclaimed show Black-ish a sitcom dealing with sociopolitical issues. She is an avid supporter of  community service. They made headlines when she filed for divorce but the Andersons have since made their way back to love proving reconciliation is possible in a marriage. They have been married since 1999.

#4 THIS FLAME WILL BURN FOREVER

He is an actor and producer who has appeared in over 150 films, making him the highest-grossing actor of all time. She is an off-Broadway actress playing supporting roles on television and film. They have been married since 1980.

#5 MANN AND WIFE

He is a stage actor, gospel singer, and stand up-comedian who has starred in Tyler Perry plays and television programs opposite his wife. She is a gospel singer, actress, and clothing line designer of the Tamela Mann Collection, athleisure and workout wear for the curvy woman. They have been married since 1988.

#6 OH HOW SWEET IT IS

He is a film and television actor best known for his roles as O-Dog in Menace II Society and the love interest Darius in Love Jones. She is an actress and former dancer with the legendary Prince. She owns the Sugar Fairy Bake Shop. They have been married since 2006.

He is an actor, comedian and dancer. She is singer–songwriter, actress and dancer. They have been married since 2000.

He is an Emmy and Golden Globe award winning actor. She is an actress with numerous television appearances. They have been married since 2007.

#9 HOW TO GET AWAY WITH LOVE

She is an actress and producer who has won an Academy Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, and two Tony Awards. She has been named the 100 most influential people in the world. He is an accomplished film, television, and theatre veteran actor and producer. They are owners of JuVee Productions. They have been married since 2003.

#10 THE DOTING HUSBAND

He is an actor appearing in feature films and television, commonly known for his role in the film Boyz N the Hood. She is a wife, mother, and supportive spouse. They have been married since 1995.

#11 WOMAN THOU ART LOVED

He is a Bishop of  The Potter’s House, a non-denominational American megachurch, author and filmmaker. She is a author, speaker and visionary behind the God’s Leading Ladies Life Enrichment Program for women who encounter life altering challenges such as abuse, divorce, joblessness and grief.

He is a football quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League and business mogul. She is a singer, songwriter, dancer, and model. They have been married since 2016.

He is a professional basketball player for the Golden State Warriors of the National Basketball Association. She is an actress, cookbook author, and cooking television personality. The couple appear on her show Ayesha’s Home Kitchen on the Food Network channel. They have been married since 2011.

He is an actor best known for his role on the NBC sitcom A Different World. She is an actress best know for her role on the NBC sitcom The Cosby Show. They have been partners in love since 1993.

He is a Emmy Award winning actor for his role on the daytime soap opera All My Children. She is an actress and director appearing in numerous films and television. They have been married since 2002.

He is a Hollywood producer, motivational speaker, and best-selling co author with his wife. She is an actress and model appearing in numerous television shows, films, and music videos. They have been married since 2012. 

#17 HIGHSCHOOL SWEETHEARTS

He is one of the greatest professional basketball players for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association. His philanthropic acts have helped thousands of children see a better life. She is a philanthropist empowering girls and young women though counseling and support. They have been married since 2013.

He is a weather forecaster, journalist, television personality, actor, and author. She is an Emmy Award winning journalist, They have been married since 1995.

#19 YOU GOT BIG DREAMS

She is an actress, dancer, choreographer, singer-songwriter, director and  producer, best know for her role in the hit television show Fame. He is a former professional basketball player who played for the Los Angeles Lakers and the San Diego/Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association. They have been married since 1984.

She is an actress, producer, and director most recognized for her role as Olivia Pope in the drama series Scandal. He is a actor, producer and former football cornerback. Drafted by the Oakland Raiders and played for the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers. The have been married since 2013.

#21 LOVE BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY

The great El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz (Malcolm X) and beautiful Sister Betty Shabazz lived a life of black love. It has been 56 years since Malcolm was assassinated they were married for 7 years. 

#22 LOVE TKO

She is a television personality, retired professional boxer, and daughter to the late and great Muhammad Ali. He is a former American football wide receiver for the Chicago Bears in the National Football League. They have been married since 2007.

#23 WHOSE HOUSE?

He is one of the founding members of Run D.M.C., producer, DJ, and TV personality as well as a practicing Minister. She is a wife. mother and sells a jewelry line called “Brown Sugar”. They have been married since 1994.

#24 FRIENDS BEFORE LOVERS

She is an actress most recognized for her role opposite her twin sister in the sitcom Sister Sister. He is an actor and executive producer. They have been married since 2008.

He is an singer, rapper, manager, actor, producer, and a founding member of  New Edition and Bell Biv DeVoe. She is the CEO of Bivins Realty Group. They have been married since 2006.

We can’t have a month of honoring black love and not include these legends. 56 years of marriage and 60 plus on stage together. Their activism and support of the civil rights movement received the attention of Malcolm X himself. They are the couple goals we didn’t know we needed to strive to be.

I had to end black love: Celebrity Edition with the Carters. They are the very definition of the black power couple. They have the wealth but it is the commitment they have to their success as a couple. They are both accomplished individually but together they are crushing not only the music industry but their goals. Influential and impactful in the lives of others, their philanthropic endeavors precede them. As controversial as they are we cannot deny the example they have given us of making moves that secure the bag and living life on your own terms. They have been married since 2008.
