SAFETY FIRST: 3 BEST PRACTICES FOR FUN AND SAFE FIRST DATES.
Going on a first date can bring up a myriad of emotions, from anxiety and fear, to excitement and surprise. Your priority as a savvy and conscious dater is to protect yourself from the potential for danger. Here are 3 specific ways from my 7 Tips for Safe First Dates you can implement into your dating process.
Tip: BECOME THE FBI
Your smartphone is your greatest tool. By simply talking to someone rather than texting you can tell a lot about a person’s personality and possible compatibility. Use your phone to gather as much intel about someone as you can before that face to face meeting. Ask questions about their job, where they live and their activities. Write down important information such as what kind of car they drive and what church or school they attend. Search their name online and look for social media accounts. These are easy ways to get an idea of who a person is and have some information to share with friends and family.
Tip: SHORTEN THE DATE
Keep the first date short and sweet. 45-60 minutes gives you enough time to evaluate a person for a second date. You are pulling information from your previous conversations and using their body language to see if their words line up with their actions. Pay attention to contradictions in thought and elaborate on conversations you may have wanted clarity on. In this stage you are gathering information and not focusing on connection or chemistry. Lead with your head to make great relationship choices.
Tip: STAY ALERT
Pay attention to strange or aggressive behavior and remove yourself immediately. If someone appears to be possibly violent, mentally or emotionally unstable end the interaction and alert others around you. In these types of situations, this is where having the pre work is going to come in handy. Make it a habit to email or text someone information about who you are with and where you are going. Think more about your safety and less about family and friends knowing your business. It can save your life.
